Información sobre Nasdaq OMX NASDAQ (National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation) es la segunda bolsa más grande de EEUU, detrás de la Bolsa de Nueva York, pero es la mayor bolsa electrónica automatizada donde cotizan más de 3.800 compañías y tiene más volumen de transacciones por hora que cualquier otra bolsa de valores en el mundo. El Nasdaq tiene su origen en una petición del Congreso de EEUU a la SEC (la institución que regula los mercados en EEUU, como la CNMV en España) para que estudiara la seguridad en los mercados. Ese informe concluye que los mercados no regulados son menos transparentes y, por tanto, menos seguros. La SEC propuso automatizar el mercado y de ahí surgió el NASDAQ Stock Market, cuya primera sesión se llevó a cabo el 8 de febrero de 1971. Los índices más importantes de la cotización Nasdaq son el Nasdaq 100 y el Nasdaq Composite, que a su vez está compuesto por ocho subíndices correspondientes a sectores específicos: Banca, Informática, Finanzas, Empresas Industriales, Seguros, Telecomunicaciones, Transportes. La principal diferencia del Nasdaq frente a otras bolsas es que en el Nasdaq no se compran y venden acciones directamente entre vendedor y comprador (no existe parqué físico) sino que se hace a través de brokers. Actualmente, el Nasdaq cuenta con más de 3.800 compañías y más de 7.000 acciones.
