HP ha anunciado un programa de colaboración de tres años con la Universidad de Swansea para investigar el desarrollo de ciudades, comunidades y campus sostenibles de última generación con tecnología de HP.
Mediante tecnología de gestión de datos de sensores HP Labs y soluciones de transformación de infraestructura de servicios públicos HP Smart Grid, el proyecto aprovechará tecnología de contadores inteligentes, ciudades inteligentes, conocimiento situacional, analítica de datos y detección de amenazas.
La Universidad de Swansea es una institución de índole mundial líder en investigación que ofrece 350 licenciaturas y 100 cursos de postgrado a 14.500 estudiantes. En septiembre de 2015, la universidad contará con un nuevo campus de 26 hectáreas, Swansea Bay Campus, que complementará su mejorado Swansea Singleton Park Campus.
“Trabajar con empresas globales como HP, así como con centros académicos y con pequeñas y medianas empresas locales, es parte fundamental para asegurar una comunidad sostenible”, afirma el Profesor Javier Bonet, director de la Escuela de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Swansea y director estratégico del proyecto. “Este programa aportará beneficios económicos directos a Gales en términos de creación, innovación y explotación del conocimiento, así como al desarrollo de trabajadores altamente cualificados”.
El programa se centrará inicialmente en la gestión energética como parte de los esfuerzos para cumplir el objetivo de reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero en un 80% para 2050 marcado por el Gobierno de Gales. Aprovechando el software, los equipos de HP y la experiencia de la compañía en sus propios centros de prueba HP Labs en Palo Alto, se establecerá un banco de pruebas para investigar la integración óptima de contadores inteligentes, tecnologías de red inteligente, sensores inalámbricos de bajo consumo, ciberseguridad y software de gestión de recursos. El objetivo es proporcionar los cambios esenciales en el suministro y consumo energético que se necesitan para alcanzar el objetivo. El fin es crear un entorno permanente para el desarrollo de productos y servicios digitales económicos de última generación.
La primera prueba de concepto se llevará a cabo en Swansea Singleton Park Campus y se extenderá a Swansea Bay Campus, un proyecto de 500 millones de libras considerado como uno de los 5 mejores proyectos de Europa basados en la economía del conocimiento*. El desarrollo del proyecto creará 4.000 puestos de trabajo, directos e indirectos. Se prevé que la primera fase del proyecto esté totalmente operativa en septiembre de 2015 y que el campus sea utilizado por unos 5.000 estudiantes y 900 empleados, con instalaciones de uso tanto para expertos en la materia como para nuevos emprendedores.
